"Then don't think about it," Beth suggests, leaning over and nudging her shoulder against Edgar's. "I know it's not that easy, there's a lot of other stuff that comes into play, but just... I know we lost Curtis, but we've both got a lot of other good stuff here, don't we? You've got Neil and Grantaire. I've got my music and Carl and Judith."

And now there's Zhou, too, although she doesn't technically have him in any way. It's complicated and she feels a little guilty, but also she has that familiar sense of an impending crush and that's not such a terrible thing.

"He'd want us to be happy," she says. "To be... not to be weighed down by losing him or by the stuff from before."
