"Before," Beth echoes and squeezes Jason's hand, but she doesn't say anything else and doesn't push him to finish the sentence either. Maybe this isn't going to be the day, but no matter what, she knows they're going to have fun. She doesn't want to make the day uncomfortable or stressful by putting any exceptions on him or on herself. Or even on who they are as a couple.

"Is it taller this time?" she asks as they walk. "The rock, I mean, is it bigger?"

The last one had been hard, but in a good way. Her arms had ached for a few days after, but then she'd felt strong.
