It's sort of funny looking back at how much things have changed even in the past year.

They'd been at the prison a year ago. Rick had shown her how to use a gun safely and Maggie had given her some lessons, but besides that, Beth hadn't dealt much with the weapons. She'd taken care of Judith during the day when Rick was busy and in the evenings she would write in her journal, sometimes sing, sometimes just walk the halls of the prison and talk to the friends she'd made. Maybe it hadn't been a perfect life, but it had been okay. She'd still had her father and her sister. She'd had Zach and her friends, the people she'd come to love as much as family.

But no one would have ever tasked her with the care of the prison. No one would have ever asked her to take a guard shift. No one would have wanted her on a run.

A lot has changed since then.

If something like that were to happen again, Beth knows where she stands now. And it's with that same confidence that she goes to meet Kili with her gun safely holstered, the clip and ammunition in her bag. When she got the license for it, they'd told her if she were to ever carry it, it would have to be visible and unloaded, and she takes these instructions very seriously. Daryl would be incredibly disappointed if she were to have it taken away.

Of course, she's pretty sure going out to shoot a handgun in the woods is against the law, but they've done it before and they've taken care to make sure they're far from anyone who might see or report them. This is where she plans on taking Kili today and she waits for him by the front door of the apartment building, humming softly to herself.
