Beth can't remember the last time she's been bowling.

It would've been a long time ago, she thinks, long before the walkers. They hadn't had an alley nearby, so they'd always had to make special trips for bowling and movies and even just shopping for anything more than groceries and farm supplies. She remembers having to drive for two hours every August just to get school supplies, a trip she'd always loved because it meant new notebooks and pens and pencil cases.

She might have been thirteen the last time they'd all found time to go bowling, she thinks. Maggie had been there. Shawn had been mad about something and he'd spent the whole game reading comics in a chair, but Beth thinks she'd give just about anything to have her brother here to yell at her again.

They're good memories, though. She has a lot of those, but sometimes they're overshadowed by all the bad things that have happened. No one should have to watch their family die -- twice, in some cases -- but Beth tries not to remember that. She tries to remember the good times instead and here, in the bowling alley, it comes easier.

"Oh, sorry," she says, realizing a second too late she's been standing in someone's way. Turning, she catches sight of a pretty waitress and she smiles sheepishly. "Sorry. Just lost in my own thoughts."
